The odds got longer for a stalled trade accord with Panama on Thursday.
"A diverse group tells Mr Blumenauer they are fed up with his support of corporations and betrayal of constituents with his support of 'free' trade policies. We elected Democrats who said they were critical of these programs and wanted a new day but we are still fighting for justice in these hard times!" As the global economic crisis deepens and more people lose their jobs, the Obama administration may soon push for ratification of the Bush-era US-Panama Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
This treaty promotes deregulation for corporations operating in Panama, one of the world’s major corporate tax havens. Even worse, it will reduce wages and labor standards, degrade the environment, and decimate family farms in both countries.
